CBX is a source code conversion product that processes Cobol programs written
for Prime 50 series systems, and converts the code so that it will successfully
compile under the MicroFocus Cobol compiler, most often found on UNIX systems.
CBX automatically corrects the source code and attempts to be as complete as
possible, thus minimising manual conversion effort. This is not always possible
and where CBX cannot make a definitive change, appropriate warning messages are
issued to allow manual verification and change. CBX undertakes extensive
validation and automatic correction of Prime Cobol programs. Major features of
CBX are: Ensures that the program syntax complies with the requirements of the
MicroFocus Cobol compiler; change Prime Cobol implementation syntax to operate
under the MiroFocus environment (gives an appropriate warning where a manual
change is required); validates reserved word usage and provides a
user-configurable method to specify replacements (data variables are
automatically converted); changes PRIMOS pathnames to either UNIX or DOS names
(it provides a user-configurable filename concordance mechanism); resolves
ambiguity where section/paragraph names are the same as data variables;
processes individual Cobol files, e.g. COPY files. CBX optionally allows
complete validation of local source by scanning the complete program. CBX will
construct the complete program to verify data names and procedure names.
